Kia notches another top showing for annual initial quality study

We can’t drive this point home enough, Kia is one of the most exciting automakers currently operating in the United States. Given how much the manufacturer’s profile has changed over the last few months to a year, the product experts working at Spitzer Kia Cleveland routinely encounter potential buyers who have never considered a Kia vehicle before. One of the first questions they almost always ask is, ‘How reliable are Kia cars and SUVs?’ Thanks to a recent announcement from the global product-rating agency, J.D. Power and Associates, we can accurately say that Kia vehicles are very reliable. For the fourth consecutive year, Kia has been named the number one non-premium brand for initial quality.

What does this award mean?

The J.D. Power Initial Quality Study surveys owners who have purchased or leased a Kia vehicle and basically asks them if they’ve had any issues in the first few months. On average, new Kia owners reported 72 issues per 100 vehicles sold or leased in the study’s time frame.

Leading the way for Kia was the Sorento midsize SUV and the Rio small car. Both models took first place in their respective segments. The Optima, Sportage and Sedan all brought home second place honors with the Forte recording a third-place finish.

J.D. Power’s team analyzed more than 75,000 responses to complete the study which spanned 240 individual models across 26 automotive industry segments. Owners who participated in the survey were asked to evaluate their vehicles’ driving experience, powertrain performance as well as a broad range of quality issues.

“Ranking number one among all mass market brands for four consecutive years leaves no doubt as to the world-class quality and craftsmanship instilled in every car and SUV that Kia builds,” Michael Cole, chief operating officer and EVP, Kia Motors America, said in a press release. “With two segment winners and four additional models finishing in the top three of their respective segments, the evidence of Kia’s progression and focus on the ownership experience is overwhelming.”

Spitzer Kia Cleveland is very excited to do its part to help our manufacturing partner get a jump on next year’s drive for five straight years at the top of the J.D. Power study. Several 2019 Kia models have already arrived, including the new Sportage and Sorento.
