Take an early look at the future of Kia crossover SUVs

September 12th, 2018 by

There is a lot to love about the lineup of new Kia vehicles in the Spitzer Kia Cleveland showroom. Our vehicles are reliable, efficient and well-equipped. However, times need to change, and the automaker is currently going through several changes right now. As popular as our crossover SUVs are, buyers are starting to wonder if something different is coming down the pike. So, is Kia making a new crossover SUV? If some new spy photos from AutoBlog are to be believed, the answer appears to be, yes, they are. The new Kia Telluride concept SUV was previously shown to crowds on the auto show circuit a few years ago, but now it looks like it’s going through a testing phase.

Due to copyright rules, we can directly share the photos published by AutoBlog of the Kia Telluride concept SUV. However, you can click the link in the embedded tweet and you will go directly to them. If you’re a little short on time, let us summarize some of the observations made by the blog’s author, Joel Stocksdale. First, he observed that the Telluride has largely retained its tall, if not, boxy outline. It’s hard to make any concrete guesses about this type of thing because of the camouflage and masking used by automakers.

We don’t know exactly how many rows will end up being in the final production version, but at least two will be available with a third being a possibility. Either way, cargo hauling shouldn’t be much of a problem as its proportions remind us of a much larger version of the Kia Soul. Stocksdale also points out that the headlights and several other elements of the front fascia have changed in comparison to what we saw in 2016 on the concept model at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

“The Kia Telluride makes an aesthetic statement for the Kia brand as a bold, all-new luxury SUV with an abundance of advanced technology, focusing particular attention on the experience and comfort of second-row occupants,” Tom Kearns, chief designer, Kia Design Center America (KDCA), said in a 2016 press release. “Longer, wider and taller than the recently redesigned Sorento CUV, Telluride allows us to envision what a full-size seven-passenger SUV from Kia could look like.”
